Calligraphy For Maxi

Flowing set of four Chinese characters created in ink-brush calligraphy, the tattoo art work extending from upper ribs down to her thigh. Painted in a legible yet stylized aesthetic, portions contain 'grass' techniques featuring connected strokes. To have this effect the entire set of writing must be created in a single movement, i.e. never lifting the calligraphy brush off the canvas. This joining between the characters not only slightly truncates spacing between yet also forms a stronger continuity, complimenting placement. The singly more horizontal line of the third character having been purposefully tailored to accentuate the hip with a fine line brush movement over the obliques, drawing one's eye towards natural curves. Such a pleasure seeing you again after so many years Maxi! We wish you safe travels ahead and look forward your next session, whenever this may be

Poised

A Chinese ink-brush tattoo artwork of a solitary tiger poised on a mountain top. The central tiger element was created using calligraphy brushes on specialist scroll paper with the surrounding elements 'freehanded' during the session. The tigers' body shows a greater level of contrast and shading gradation within the technique. The stripes more pronounced, softer gray-scale alongside a more significant use of inverted spacing particularly around the face. This lighter watercolor aesthetic has to be sufficiently separated from the similarly fluid background elements, both in monochrome, yet the composition still offers an increased depth in comparison to the more solid black ink-brush technique. Although smaller than most pieces the tiger is accented through fine line trees / natural elements that wrap up from the upper arm as well. Thank you again Peter and excellent to have you here in the studio

Classically Abstract Sunrise

[smartslider3 slider=8]

An abstract floral scene created for a full back tattoo composition entitled 'A Moment Captured' The artwork features a dark brush fish leaping against highly stylized flower-trees into the sunrise / sunset, created in a primarily dispersed soft-brush tone with more pronounced fine brush structural highlights. Although individually traditionally featured in Chinese scroll and or watercolor paintings the elements' movement as well as overall composition is a strong, modern departure from the classics. Painted over a number of days, as the dispersion effects from the ink take time to materialize on the specialist paper, the application session was based on the painting itself yet freehanded. A separate video of the tattooing will be released shortly

As Dreamt

Stylized yet delicate three character Chinese ink-brush calligraphy tattoo artwork running down the center forearm. Although somewhat smaller than the usual calligraphy compositions the art was specifically designed utilizing additional 'dry brush' aesthetics so as to accentuate the fractured movement even within a comparatively truncated canvas. The movement of the writing allowing for a balanced vertical alignment despite the funnel dimensions of the forearm. The entire piece was completed in less than a single session and again, our absolute pleasure creating your artwork. We hope to see you in the studio again shortly

Zen For Wilson

A single, large Chinese ink-brush calligraphy tattoo artwork placed on the upper back and accented by a muted tone zen brush circle. The more minimalist portions of the left side are highlighted through the rich red underlay; the zen circle itself further breaking the directional flow of the writing. The character was created using a different sized calligraphy brush allowing for sharper fractions in the movement, which further highlights the smoother movement in the circle. The calligraphy and circle were designed independently on separate canvases before combined as the final composition. Thank you again for your kind patience and trust Wilson - it was a pleasure creating your artwork
